PRINCE GEORGE – The Cannawinter Clothing Drive returned to Prince George for its second year, which saw local cannabis businesses come together this holiday season to collect toys and clothes this Christmas season.

“We just come together as an industry. It’s a way to show our support to our communities, we all live and work in our communities, and we want to support the community,” said Nadine Furnell, owner of Mama Deen’s Enhanced Experiences.

“I think we’re getting good traction. We’re just getting out here and contributing and hopefully we just get bigger and better every year. I think that’s the goal, help as many people as we can,” added Tyson Wall, CEO of Kush Mountain.

The Cannawinter Clothing Drive began in the lower mainland in 2023, and was adopted in Prince George in 2024 for its inaugural year. Locally, 2025’s edition of the event raised more than 70 pounds of winter clothing was raised, which will be delivered to the Nechako Youth Centre. Also collected was a truck full of toys for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

“It’s really nice to get in and keep the community alive for sure, it shows that there’s a lot of people that are willing to give within it,” Wall said.

“I think it’s really important for us as an industry to give back wherever we can. We all have children, we all have parents. We’ve all been through different situations, people with cancer and things like that, so it’s very important for us to give back to the communities,” Furnell added.

Province-wide, this event has raised more than 15,000 items with over 200 participants. It’s a cause the local industry is happy to support, and Furnell adds getting out in the community with events like this also helps destigmatize cannabis.

“It’s a legal commodity, it’s medicine for many people, and it’s a business. We’re just here to give back,” she said.

Furnell adds a separate toy drive is being planned for December 23, although a specific location is not yet known, but all toys will be donated to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation. She adds if you’re interested, you could also directly drop off toys at the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation’s building up to December 23.
