PRINCE GEORGE — Update: Tonight, the City of Prince George confirmed the water is now turned off at the site of today’s water main break at 3rd Avenue and Winnipeg Street.

Spokesperson Mike Kellett says this will give crews the chance to repair the water main, which was installed in 1956 and is made of cast iron.

He adds crews will be working through the night though it’s expected that water service in the area will be disrupted until tomorrow morning.

Kellett says the closure of 3rd Avenue between Prince Rupert Street and Winnipeg Street is expected to last until tomorrow night.

Update: Third Avenue has been temporarily closed as crews continue to deal with this afternoon’s water main break.

Earlier: City crews are tending to a water main break on the 1700 block of 3rd Avenue this afternoon.

Water can be seen gushing from the 3rd Avenue sidewalk onto the street.

So far, traffic has not been disrupted.

No word yet from the city as to what caused it.
