McBride named finalist in Canada’s kindest community competition
MCBRIDE, B.C. — The Village of McBride has been named as one of the top 10 kindest communities in Canada, as part of national competition organized by Coca-Cola.
The community, which is about two hours east of Prince George on Highway 16, is going up against nine other finalists for a $100,000 prize for charity and a stop on the Coca-Cola Holiday Caravan 2026 tour.
“What does it take to become Canada’s Kindest Community? In McBride, it’s the daily acts of kindness,” a release from competition organizers said, as they listed some of the acts of kindness in McBride, as follows:
- Every Christmas Day in McBride, the community comes together to host a free holiday dinner for anyone who needs a place to gather. Local farmers, grocery stores, and residents donate the food, while a local church opens and decorates its hall, ensuring no one goes hungry on Christmas.
- Neighbours are always look out for each other. Sidewalks are often shoveled before new parents even step outside, and local shops regularly run giveaways or quietly help families stretch their budgets.
- When a neighbouring business owner suffered a heart attack during winter, a resident stepped in without being asked. They cleared the snow-covered sidewalks outside the shop to keep the space safe and accessible, offering quiet support during a difficult and uncertain time.
