PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars continue to have the better of the Kamloops Blazers, as they picked up a 5-2 win Friday (Feb. 13) night at CN Centre.

Brock Souch scored twice, while Terik Parascak, Jett Lajoie, and Corbin Vaughan also found the back of the net for the 31-19-2-0 Cougars, who remain in third place in the Western Conference with 64 points from 52 games.

Kamloops (25-18-6-4) is in fifth place with 60 points from 53 games.

Souch opened the scoring on the power play with the only goal of the first period, though Blazers defenceman Isa Guram came close to making it 1-1 when he rifled a shot off the crossbar.

Parascak made it 2-0 early in the second period, though Vit Zahejsky pulled one back for Kamloops about a minute later. The Cougars responded as Souch and Vaughan added to the scoresheet to make it a 4-1 affair.

Josh Evaschesen pulled another goal back for the Blazers to round out the second period scoring as the Cougars led 4-2.

The Cougars were able to close out the third period after they added a fifth goal from Jett Lajoie, and held on for the 5-2 win.

Things got chippy in the final seconds as the Blazers Joaquin Geras, Isa Guram and Vit Zahejsky along with the Cougars Riley Ashe, Phoenix Cahill and Koy Funk were assessed offsetting roughing penalties and 10-minute misconducts.

Prince George netminder Josh Ravensbergen had a relatively quiet night as he only had to make 20 saves on 22 shots to pick up the win. Blazers goaltender Logan Edmonstone finished with 34 saves on 39 shots.

The Cougars have won six of seven games against the Blazers this season with two games left to play. The penultimate game between these two B.C. Division rivals of the season will be played at Sandman Centre at 6:00 p.m. this evening.

This evening’s game is also the first of a season-high eight in a row on the road for the Cougars who will play in Penticton on Family Day Monday (Feb. 16) before embarking on their east division road trip though Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
