BC Highway Patrol is asking the public for any information it may have surrounding the crash, saying this is crucial to furthering the investigation.

PRINCE GEORGE — A man is dead and BC Highway Patrol is looking for witnesses and dash camera video after a collision between a logging truck and a blue pickup truck north of Prince George.

On March 16, 2026, at 12:42 p.m., police were called to Highway #97 (the Hart Highway), near Salmon Valley, where a northbound Peterbilt logging truck towing an empty trailer had collided with a southbound blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

The 29-year-old Alberta man who was driving the Peterbilt logging truck appeared to have minor injuries, but the 67-year-old Mackenzie man who was alone in the blue Silverado did not survive the crash.

“Any witnesses who saw this collision, or who have dash camera of the events leading up to the crash, will be crucial to this investigation,” says Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “At this early stage, nothing has been ruled out in terms of what caused the collision.”

Road conditions were wet and slushy at the time of the crash. “We have seen two fatal collisions in less than a day on Highway #97. We’re urging motorists in and around Prince George to slow down to well below the speed limit,” says Corporal McLaughlin. “You need to be extra cautious.”

Anyone who saw the events leading up to the fatal collision north of Prince George is asked to call BC Highway Patrol – Prince George at 250-649-4004 and quote file (3100) 2026-190.
