To Your Health: New plan to cover diabetes and menopausal meds
PRINCE GEORGE – Hundreds of thousands of people in British Columbia are now getting help with their prescription medication costs. Starting March 1, a new national pharmacare plan pays the full cost of many diabetes medications and menopausal hormone therapies, with no deductible.
Almost 570,000 British Columbians with diabetes and about 160,000 people managing menopausal symptoms will benefit from the new BC PharmaCare National Pharmacare Plan. Thanks to up to 670 million dollars in federal funding over three years, eligible medications are now free at the pharmacy.
Now, patients who used to pay high out-of-pocket costs at the start of each year before meeting their deductible will no longer face that barrier. Covered medications include insulin, other common diabetes drugs, and menopausal hormone therapies. There is no need to register; residents just show their prescription and BC Services Card.
