Tabor Mountain Ski Lodge Burned

PRINCE GEORGE – The lodge at the Tabor Mountian Ski Resort has been destroyed by an overnight fire. 

The fire broke out overnight in the main lodge.  The CKPG Newsroom was contacted by one witness who passed by the ski facility around midnight and spotted the flames rising high into the air.  Another witness reported seeing the fire around two this morning.  The lodge is continuing to smolder at this hour. 

The Chief of the Ferndale/Tabor Volunteer Fire Department received a call at 11:40 pm.  By the time they arrived, it was too late to save the lodge. “We found a fully involved building with flames coming out of every window and door.  When we got in through the gate, parked the truck, the roof went into the basement” said Bryant Kemble.    

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.  In the meantime, police will remain on scene until such time that fire investigators can complete their work.

It’s not known how the fire has affected the remaining infrastructure of the ski hill, but there are no obvious signs of additional problems.  The lodge housed ticket sales, rentals, and the concession for the facility.  The resort website has posted a message saying it will be closed to skiers this weekend.

No injuries have been reported.

Tabor Mountain hosted some Boarder Cross and Ski Cross events during the 2015 Canada Winter Games.  Western Canadian Ski Cross, NorAm Ski Cross and NorAm Boarder Cross races have also been held at the facility in the last few years.  The resort has been a popular ski venue for Prince George residents over the decades because of its relatively short half hour drive east of the city.
