Single vehicle MVI claims one life near Vanderhoof

VANDERHOOF — BC RCMP say a 24-year-old man is dead after his vehicle went off Highway 16 and rolled into the river.

Police say it happened at around 11:45 a.m. on May 18 near the 14000-block of Highway 16, east of Vanderhoof.

RCMP say when the vehicle rolled into the river, it came to rest submerged. Bystanders extracted the vehicle with the use of a tractor and were performing emergency first aid on the driver when police arrived.

First responders continued life-saving efforts but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was reportedly injured in the crash.
