City’s pawnbrokers bylaw amended

PRINCE GEORGE- A bylaw that prevented the ability of stores and customers from exchanging trading and collectible cards has been amended and officially took effect Tuesday. Now, stores no longer need to hold items for 30 days before selling them.

The city’s pawnshop bylaw encompassed everything under the purchase and sale of second-hand merchandise. The reasoning behind the bylaw was to prevent stolen cards from being traded, especially high profile sports cards. Stores needed to hold any items they bought for 30 days and log and track them in case somebody came in with a claim for them.

Due to other more urgent or important bylaws ahead of this one, it has not been officially completed until now. Those pushing for the amendment are just happy it is finally done. With this adjustment, they feel it will open the door for more people to get into gaming and drive traffic into the stores.
