Prince George looking to capture share of billions in Northern B.C. major projects
PRINCE GEORGE — Tens of billions of dollars in major industrial, energy and infrastructure projects are expected to flow into Northern British Columbia over the coming years, and Prince George officials say the city must act now to ensure local businesses and workers benefit from that investment.
That was the message delivered by City of Prince George Economic Development Manager Deklan Cortsanje during a recent presentation to the city’s Standing Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs.
According to Cortsanje, economic development isn’t simply about attracting projects. It’s about preparing local companies to compete for the contracts, services and workforce opportunities those projects create.
“The thing about economic development at a community level is you need to be proactive to be ready for those opportunities,” Cortsanje said. “By the time they break ground, it’s been too late.”
