Council approves Croft Road variance
PRINCE GEORGE – A controversial development dispute in Prince George’s Hart neighbourhood has been resolved after city council approved a variance for a home under construction at 2239 Croft Road, allowing the project to move forward despite a significant setback issue caused by a city permitting error.
The decision, approved Monday night, comes months after residents raised concerns about the impact the development would have on neighbouring properties. The issue stems from a mistake made by city staff in 2023 when rear and side yard setback definitions were mixed up while issuing a building permit to Mehsem Holding Ltd.
As a result, the home’s foundation and proposed rear deck were built just 1.17 metres from a property line where RS1 zoning regulations normally require a six-metre rear setback.
