PRINCE GEORGE – The Rosy red minnows is an invasive species and its been found breeding in a local stream east of Prince George in June of this year. Provincial biologist Nikolaus Gantner is warning the public not to release aquarium fish into stream, rivers or lakes, as invasive fish are a major threat to freshwater fisheries through effects like competition and predation. Once established, they are difficult and expensive to remove. The public is urged to return any unwanted fish to pet stores, rather than releasing them into the wild.
