PRINCE GEORGE — A 31-year-old Dawson Creek man is facing multiple theft charges.

The Prince George RCMP says they stem from the alleged theft of a pickup truck last Thursday.

“At approximately 10 a.m. on Jan.17, the Prince George RCMP received a report from a City of Prince George employee of a possible stolen vehicle being driven along Highway 97 through Prince George,” says Cpl. Craig Douglass. “The employee and three co-workers worked together to provide detailed information to police about the vehicle that one of them had recognized as a stolen vehicle off social media.”

He says the truck and its driver were eventually located on West Williams Road, just south of Red Rock.

“Police computer checks confirmed the pickup was stolen from Mackenzie and the licence plate had been stolen from Beaverlodge, Alberta,” says Douglass.

Douglass says the suspect was arrested without incident, noting a search of the truck revealed a small quantity of heroin, cannabis and open liquor.

He says a snowmobile in the back of the truck was found to have been recently stolen in Dawson Creek. It is believed the suspect was headed to Williams Lake.

Tyler Lee Calliou of Dawson Creek has been charged with the following offences:

  • Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Three counts of failure to comply with recognizance.
  • Possession of a controlled substance

Douglass says the investigation is ongoing and further charges are possible. Calliou as also issued a Cannabis Act ticket and a Liquor Control and Licensing Act ticket. He was also found to have an outstanding arrest warrant out of Dawson Creek.
