Record Setting Year For Prince George Airport
PRINCE GEORGE – For the first time in the airport’s 77 year history, more than half a million passengers have come through YXS.
The Prince George Airport Authority says this year brought 506,486 people through the doors of the airport, up from 499,125 passengers in 2017. Four airlines currently operate out of the airport to scheduled destinations across Canada as well as seasonal flights to Puerto Vallarta Mexico.
The growth of the airport has been quite extensive since the airport was transferred in 2003 from the federal government to the Prince George Airport Authority. Since the transfer, several new infrastructure projects have been completed. One of the most important projects has been the extension of the runway, which has allowed for larger aircraft carrying more passengers to use the airport.
The Prince George Airport Authority currently has $10 million in capital programs scheduled. The airport plans to refurbish runway surfaces as well as expand the parking lot.
