PRINCE GEORGE- The Minister of Transportation, Claire Trevena, says she didn’t know what to expect when the province rolled out BC Bus North, however, ridership is growing week after week. There are about five people per ride, with the exception of Prince George to Prince Rupert with sees about 20. BC Transit is looking for feedback before it will consider more stops or a more frequent schedule. BC Bus North hit the highway on June 4th, just a few days after Greyhound pulled out of Northern BC. It was implemented for a cost of two million dollars and it’s intended to be a temporary fix before a more permanent solution can be found. Trevena says there is nothing set in stone for a replacement next June.

Mayor Lyn Hall says it’s a step in the direction, but more has to be done. The service has solved some concerns, like daytime pick up hours, but the service is infrequent at just two trips a week. He says the bus is an important piece for the north as many people travel for work and school.
