eTextbook Campaign At CNC
PRINCE GEORGE – The CNC Students’ Union has launched a campaign to cut down on the tremendous cost of textbooks.
“The Open Education Resource campaign that we’re running this year is to promote the integration of online resources,” explains student Michelle Frechette. “So, e-textbooks rather than the traditional hard copy books.”
She says in some cases the cost of the textbook is in excess of the cost of the course itself. The BC Federation of Students says 26% of BC students choose to not register for a course due to textbook costs. And Many of the faculty at CNC are supportive, like English teacher Brenda Koller.
“I’ve decided this semester that I’m going to adopt an open access textbook. So there is no cost to the students whatsoever. It’s available online and, for those students who want a hard copy, they can print parts of it or they can order a printed copy.”
