PRINCE GEORGE – NDP MP Nathan Cullen is expressing frustration with the salmon season in BC’s northwest. The MP for Skeena Bulkley Valley says the year has been challenging on a number of fronts, from low salmon numbers to the actions of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

“We’ve had a crisis in our fishing sector in the northwest and we need leadership from the DFO, from the top of the DFO which is the minister,” said NDP MP Nathan Cullen.  Cullen directing his attack at the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Jonathan Wilkinson.

“More importantly, I just want him to do his job,” said Cullen. “And part of that job is coming up into Skeena, talking with people on the ground so he can hear the real deal, not from his officials here in Ottawa that keep him in the dark and feed him a bunch of garbage.”

When the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans comes up to the province’s northwest, the MP for Skeena-Bulkley Valley adds that he wants to talk with the minister about how the government plans to restore abundant salmon populations from the current low salmon runs.
