PRINCE GEORGE – UPDATE: Local Mounties responded to an explosion north of Prince George near Landooz Road at around 5:30 pm Tuesday night. The explosion involved an Enbridge natural gas pipeline. There were no injuries reported. As a precaution, residences within several kilometres were evacuated, but can now return home as the evacuation area has been reduced to a one-kilometre radius. While the investigation continues, police say there is still no word on what caused the explosion.

Enbridge said in a statement that their emergency crews are now depressurizing two natural gas transmission lines to contain the incident. They add that 100 people in the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation in the rural area of the explosion were evacuated as a precaution.

The City of Prince George has now activated its Emergency Operations Centre in response to the pipeline explosion and fire. The flow of natural gas has been shut off and the fire extinguished. Through the City’s EOC and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, emergency support services will be provided should it be needed.
