Adult Literacy Programs Get a Boost
PRINCE GEORGE – The provincial government is putting more money into helping adult learners in the Central Interior.
The College of New Caledonia will be distributing $342,390 worth of funding to a total of 16 programs through the region to help support skills such as reading, writing, math and computer skills needed to understand household budgets, join in community activities and help children with homework.
Statistics show more than 700,000 adults in BC have significant challenges with literacy.
CNC President Henry Reiser says “delivering literacy and numeracy programs in the community ensures that adult learners feel supported. People with stronger literacy skills are more likely to participate in adult education and job related training.”
A total of $2.4 million will go to over 100 programs to help adult learners province wide this year.
