CNC Dental Assisting Program Celebrates Over 50 Years
PRINCE GEORGE — The dental assisting program at CNC started in 1966, and since then has seen over 1200 graduates. A lot of the program’s success can be attributed back to the partnerships with local dental offices.
“There isn’t much that we could do if we didn’t have them supporting us because we place our students out in the community for practicum so that the students have an opportunity to see how offices work together,” says Heather Brown, one of the instructors.
Partnering with local dental offices has positive effects on students, giving them a chance to practice the skills they learn at school, but it also benefits the dental offices.
“The need for dental assistants is always high so when we see these students coming over for their practicums, it’s beneficial for us because we get to see potential employees and they get the opportunity to see what it’s like to be in an actual dental office,” says Savannah Ball, the assistant practice manager for Family Dental Care’s downtown location.
