Cell Service Improvements for Highway of Tears

PRINCE GEORGE — Cell phone service is about to improve safety on the Highway of Tears.

Victoria has announced a new cell tower will bring wireless coverage from New Hazelton to Smithers.

The new service will benefit the Witset First Nation, the only nation without service along Highway 16.

The provincial government says the cell tower will also assist residents in the Smithers-New Hazelton corridor, as well as commercial and personal traffic along the highway.

Construction of the Rogers cell tower started last month and is expected to be completed in the coming months.
