Have You Reviewed Your Medication Lately?

PRINCE GEORGE – The final week of October is recognized nationally as Canadian Patient Safety Week. Northern Health has partnered up with organizations across the country to raise awareness for patient safety.

This year’s theme is “Not all Meds Get Along” and it will run from October 29th until November 2nd. The purpose of this year’s theme is to prompt patients and health-care professionals to consider medication reviews for anyone on multiple medications.  Patients are advised to keep medication records up to date and include any allergies.

Manager at 3rd Avenue Pharmacy, Patrick Dinelle says there are many questions that should be asked by the patient when reviewing medication.

“Patients should ask pharmacists just how to take it, what it’s for, any specific times, if they should avoid eating any certain food or drinks or if it interacts with any other medications that they might be on. Those are very important because drug interactions can lead to a lot of health issues that can be prevented.”
