Transplant Recipient Gives Back

PRINCE GEORGE – A local transplant recipient said thank you to staff at the University Hospital today.

Joyce Grantham received a heart in 1999,  and she’s still going strong.  Grantham took part in the Operation Popcorn event Tuesday through BC Transplant, delivering popcorn to staff at the OR, ER and the ICU.

“It’s very important, it gives people a life, it gives people another chance. Whether its kidneys or eyes, they get to see the family that maybe they didn’t get to see,” said Grantham.

Its a small way for Grantham to say thank you to health care providers for giving her another chance at life. Statistics show there are over six hundred people in BC waiting for a transplant,  and in 2017 479 lives were saved through transplants. 2018 also marks the 50th year since the first transplant operation took place in BC.
