HOUSTON, B.C. — Coastal GasLink says construction was shut down temporarily at the site of the future LNG pipeline due to safety concerns as a number of people continue to enter the site to set up traps.

The company says it’s not only dangerous for its employees but for those entering the construction site unauthorized as heavy equipment is at work.

Yesterday, crews found new animal traps in the trees and new signs stating the traps were there. Coastal GasLink says it provided notice to trappers that work was being done in the area, to ensure awareness and prevent any disturbance to traditional activities.

RCMP has confirmed officers have responded to possible violations of the court-ordered injunction issued by the BC Supreme Court. Police officers from the Community-Industry Safety Office set up by request of Hereditary Chiefs, are currently investigating.
