Henner Grimm
March 22, 1925- Aug 11, 2024
At 99 years old, Henner passed away peacefully with loved ones at his side in a family home.
Henner grew up in Germany, trained in agriculture, and flew with the Luftwaffe during World War II as a recognizance pilot. He was captured at one point and spent the last part of the war in a POW camp. He immigrated to Canada in 1951 with his wife, Almut, starting life over with a trunk of belongings, 11 cents in their pockets, and a lot of hope for a better life. They never wanted to experience another war.
Henner learned the trade of carpentry and ended his career as a building inspector in Fort St James and area where they settled for the final time building his last cabin and home with his wife in Stones Bay.
Henner most enjoyed hunting, sailing, reading, his artwork (pastels), tending the garden, and visiting with friends, neighbors, and anyone who would listen to his stories.
When he lost his wife four years ago, Henner’s faith gave him comfort, hope, and wind to carry on living life to the fullest. Even after a devastating stroke, Henner was still able to enjoy some of his favourite activities and stay living in his home until shortly before he passed away. His cherished family was everything to him. He will be missed and remembered for his warmth, harmonica playing. community involvement, and enduring love for his family. Even as his mind and body failed, he was a shelter of love and peace to those in his presence. Much gratitude to those who helped make living at home possible these last few years and gave him the gift of your company and tender care.
Henner and Almut left a legacy of welcome, generosity, and beauty to their daughters Annemarie (Rick), Barbara (Ken), and Annette (Bill), granddaughters Theresa (Jason), Patricia (Troy), Amanda (Justin), Melissa (Jonny), Rachel (Ryan), Emma, and Karoline (Tyler), and great-grandchildren Kassidy, Finley, Rowan, Ashton, Eli, Joel, Annabelle, Vienne, Felix, and Alma, and adopted family Andy and Uli Roessler.
He is the last of his lineage in Germany, predeceased by his brother Hermann, Sisters Dorle and Susanne.
Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
