Sylvia Fowler

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Sylvia Elaine Lagasse Yearley Fowler, who passed away peacefully, on January 15, 2018. Sylvia became a guest at the Prince George Hospice House on January 10, 2018, and was surrounded by family.

Born March 15, 1939, in Bonnyville, AB. Sylvia grew up in Maillardville & Burnaby, BC; graduating from the Convent in Dawson Creek, BC, before obtaining a General Business Certificate in 1958, and later obtaining her first year CGA.

In 1963, she moved to Kitimat, BC with her husband and young family, lived in Prince Rupert (1974-76), before finally settling in Prince George, BC, in 1976. She worked a variety of positions at Canfor, before joining the College of New Caledonia in May 1987 until her retirement in January 2008 as the Executive Assistant to the President of the College.

Sylvia remained very active in the community and served on various Boards, including the International Association of Administrative Professionals, Toastmasters, Catholics Women’s League, The Prince George Council of Seniors, Fort George Manor; along with volunteering with numerous other nonprofit and charitable agencies including the Canadian Figure Skating Association; Brownies – Girl Guides of Canada, and the SPCA.

Sylvia was very community oriented and always willing to be of service in whatever capacity required. She left an imprint on the lives of many people.

Survived by her children: Debra Yearley, Glenda Yearley, Alison Csanyi, Leanne Yearley, Lance (Kim) Yearley, step-sons Ken (Sue) Fowler, Michael (Donna) Fowler, Doug (Kari) Fowler, Grandchildren: Eric, Marc and Sara Ricard & Stephanie Wight,  Ursula & Stuart Penner, Danielle Yearley, Andrew, Erika & Jennifer Csanyi, Adam, Megan & Lucas Wu, Bailey Yearley, Evan & Ashley Fowler, Great Grandchildren; Malachi and Owen Ricard, Summer Doering, Oliver & Dominic Nguyen; Madison Sales, Jacob, Riley & Charlotte Wight, Kit Penner, Zayn Wu, Aidan Fowler, and brother Omer (Fran) Lagasse.

Pre-deceased by the love of her life and fishing partner, husband L.C. (Dave) Fowler, stepdaughter Shannon Fowler, son in-law Tom Csanyi, parents Phillipe and Mabel (Walsh) Lagasse, sister Margaret (Lagasse) Eden and brother Leo Lagasse.

Prayers and viewing will be held on Friday January 19, 2018 at 7:00 pm and Funeral Mass on Saturday January 20, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 887 Patricia Blvd, Prince George, BC.

 

Family and friends are welcome to a gathering immediately following the funeral service.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Sylvia to:  Prince George Hospice Society, Arthritis Society of BC, SPCA or St. Vincent de Paul.

The family would like to thank Dr. Plouffe, the entire staff at the UHNBC and the Prince George Hospice Society.
