There will be some challenges with the Memorial Park Cemetary moving forward. While there is still 50 years of life in the cemetery based on interment numbers.

“Industry is telling us that now that the traditional method of full burials is not the way things are moving forward in the future,” says Sean LeBrun, the Manager of Parks and Solid Waste Services. “[Cremations]  seem to be more socially acceptable.”

But he says the City needs to start looking at different options for interments.

“We need to do a little more work on our options as far as cremations are concerned. Currently, we have the mausoleum that is nearing capacity with the niches, both the glass fronts and marble fronts. We do have crermation-only plots in the cemetery, but there are scattering gardens, memorial walls, outdoor columbariums.”
