Campfires Allowed In Part Of Northeast B.C.

Aug 27, 2018 | 10:23 AM

PRINCE GEORGE – Campfires will be allowed again in part of northeast BC this week. As of noon Tuesday, campfires will be allowed in the Fort Nelson Forest District and Peace Forest District. The change is a result of rain and cooler temperatures along with reduced fire danger ratings.

Meantime, the ban on any open fires, including campfires, remains in effect throughout the Prince George Fire Centre. Activities that are prohibited are Category 2 and 3 open fires, the use of sky lanterns, fireworks including firecrackers, the use of air curtain burners, burn barrels and burn cages and the use of binary exploding targets.

Anyone found with an open fire prohibition could be issued a $1,150 ticket, pay an administrative penalty of $10,000 or fined up to $100,000 and/or sentenced to one year in jail if convicted in court.
