It’s Cold… But Not a Record Breaker

PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George residents woke up to temperatures in the minus 30s, and though it’s cold, it wasn’t cold enough to break any records.

At 8 am Environment Canada reported the overnight low of minus 36.2. The negative 40.6 recorded back in 1937 still holds the record.
“The record values for the Prince George area are actually in the minus 40s for this time of the year.  We had temperatures in the minus 30s but not quite record-breaking,” said Bobby Sekhon, Meteorologist Environment and Climate Change Canada.

The first arctic air of the season is thanks to a ridge of high pressure that’s bringing cold air into BC and keeping temperatures well below normal. It looks like the trend will continue for a while.

Sekhon says the worst is over for now, but by mid-week temperatures will remain below normal for the next week to ten days. He adds those working outdoors or travelling should take precautions, carry extra clothes and avoid being outside for too long of a time.
