PRINCE GEORGE – Tracy McBride, CEO of Tourism PG, is feeling optimistic about the future of tourism to the Northern Capital following the recent news of upgraded flights between Calgary and Prince George through WestJet.

Starting April 26 the daily flight from Calgary to Prince George will be upgraded from the previous 34 seats Saab to the 78-seat Q400 plane. The upgrade is not only more people but will make the flight faster.

With the boost in tourism already through provincial, national, as well as international events such as the upcoming World Women’s Curling Championships, McBride is excited about the increased number of travellers WestJet will be having along the PG to Calgary route.

“We’re really excited to partner with the airport. By having it to start expansion to Calgary it critically important. When you’re out there bidding for those events, having that connectivity bodes well for you in acquiring those events,” said McBride. “And then enhancing that when you look into leisurely travel from Vancouver or Calgary makes your destination more attractive for those activities as well.”
