PRINCE GEORGE—The City of Prince George is working with several of its partners on a number of initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic aimed at improving safety, cleanliness, and inclusion for all residents, in the downtown.

Prince George Fire Rescue Crews are conducting daily patrols of the downtown. Twice a day they patrol alleys from 1st Ave. to 6th Ave. and from Victoria St. to Lower Patricia Blvd. Crews search for accumulations of combustible material and report any suspicious activities to RCMP.

DART has been contracted by the City to aid in the cleanliness of alleys in the downtown.

Downtown Prince George is contributing to enhanced downtown cleanliness by working with the Prince George Brain Injured Group (PGBIG) to expand the hours of service provided by the Downtown Clean Team.

In Collaboration with the Community Partners Addressing Homelessness, the City is also administering the Federal Government’s Reaching Home COVID-19 response fund.

The first allocation of funding was distributed to six agencies in Prince george to enhance services in a number of critical areas including food security, mental health support, neighbourhood cleanup, and drop-in support.

Bylaw Services Staff continue to assist with the response to complaints related to COVID-19 education, provided by the Province. This includes educating vulnerable members of the community about public health orders and recommendations relating to COVID-19.

The washrooms across from the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre have been opened by the City to provide additional access to those impacted by the closure of businesses and civic facilities.

The washrooms are monitored by the POUNDS Project Society and are open from 7 a.m. to noon, and 7 p.m. to midnight seven days a week.

These washrooms are an addition to those provided at two homeless service hub sites, supported by the City.
