Blooming buds mark 75 years since the end of the Second World War
PRINCE GEORGE– Although a gathering will not be held this year, the tulips are still blooming.
Every year since 1994, the local Dutch Community has commemorated the Liberation of Holland from German Occupation on May 5th, 1945, by Canadian Soldiers–with tulips at City Hall.
This year is no different, with tulips planted in planters by the Prince George Cenotaph, marking 75 years since the end of the Second World War.
Over the years, the tulip has become a symbolic way for Dutch people to express their gratitude to Canadians. 100,000 tulips were gifted to Canada’s capital, after the Second World War had ended, for providing a safe harbour to the Dutch Royal family during the war.
