‘We’re just so grateful’: Artist thanks Coldsnap Music Fest

Jan 31, 2021 | 4:43 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – This year has been anything but easy for musicians and artists who have had countless gigs cancelled because of COVID-19 and the restrictions which have come with it.

Rachelle van Zanten is just one of many who have seen their industry essentially grind to a halt, especially in the touring department.

“Luckily six years ago I had a Coldsnap baby,” joked van Zenten. “I don’t tour as much as some of the other artists I know, but when I’m up on stage I can’t help but think of all my buddies across the world.”

Van Zenten is just one of a few artists in town as part of the annual Coldsnap Music Festival, while others from outside the region submitted pre-produced videos from wherever they are because of travel restrictions.

“I just want to thank the organizers for making all of the artists feel so special, they’ve gone above and beyond.” says van Zenten.

Organizers say despite not having a crowd, the series of performances have been a big success, with plenty of viewers who have been watching the live stream through Facebook, Youtube, and the Coldsnap website.

“I just want to thank our sponsors who really stepped up this year, the event is free of charge online largely in thanks to all of them.” says Dwight Wolffe, Media Relations Manager for the festival.

Sunday was only day three in the nine day series, all shows being broadcasted online by Russell Audio-Visual who have a team of cameras and technicians switching angles and adjusting audio on the fly.

Jon Russell says what is normally a thankless job as Technical Director has been very rewarding.

“Normally we don’t want to be noticed, when we aren’t that’s usually a good thing so it’s been really rewarding to see all of the thanks and feedback come in through the streams.” says Russell.

There are performances from artists every night at 7:30 PM until Saturday February 6th, more details can be found here.
