14th Annual Special Chiefs Meeting Wraps
PRINCE GEORGE — The 14th annual Special Chiefs Assembly has wrapped up after two days in Prince George. At one point, there were about 80 Chiefs or representatives from across the province were in attendance. Terry Teegee is the Regional Chief for the BC Assembly of First Nations. He says this is a first.
“In the last 14 years, Special Chiefs Assemblies more often than not, are in Vancouver or West Bank.”
He says it’s nice to see some faces that he would not otherwise have seen if the event were held in the Lower Mainland. Also, some of the items on the table were different.
“For Prince George and areas up here, it’s development. Lots of forestry development, LNG pipelines over the last decade, a lot of mining projects. For our First Nations communities that are more rural, we depend on those types of projects so it’s really important that we voice our concerns over how those decisions are made and that’s why it’s important to have the ministers here.”
