VICTORIA — The BC government has announced $6.5 million in disaster-mitigation projects throughout the province.

Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth says the funding will help improve the safety of British Columbians.

Ten high-priority projects have been approved in areas including seismic safety, avalanche risk assessment, flood protection and mitigation, and wildfire preparedness planning at the community level.

That includes $2.6 million for flood-mitigation projects throughout B-C, $1.75 million to further assess earthquake-related hazards in the Metro Vancouver area and a $1.5 million contribution to the community preparedness fund of the Union of BC Municipalities.
