Grants To Stop Violence And Begin Healing Process
SURREY – The Canadian Mental Health Association in Prince George is receiving a grant to help the healing process for inmates with their Peer Support program.
The $75,000 grant will go towards helping up to 15 inmates develop coping skills, finding safe housing and find ways to deal with mental health and addiction issues. Inmates with one year or less remaining on their sentence will be eligible for the support.
“For many British Columbians, including women and children, violence is a reality in their lives – but it doesn’t have to be that way,” said Mitzi Dean, Parliamentary Secretary for Gender Equity. The provincial grants help community initiatives with things like reducing crime and improve community safety, have more child and youth advocacy centres and police training.
