Stream To Sea Is Back Indefinitely
The Stream to Sea program allows school children to rear salmon fry from egg-stage in October through to June. The fry are then released into the Nechako River. The idea is to teach the children about the fish, their habitat and the ecosystem in general. Across Canada, 35,000 children participate each year.
Last year, local Program Coordinator Terri McClymont was told the program was scrapped. But, as of today, that program will remain indefinitely.
“Because of the outcry of the citizens of BC, the program was reinstated in its entirety,” says McClymont. “So we really give kudos to all the individuals, the children, the teachers, supporters of salmon who helped to bring their voice to Ottawa.”
Some of those voices came from Daniel Scott’s students, who wrote letters about the program. He is over the moon to hear the news of the program’s future.
