Future Canadians Prepare For Citizenship
PRINCE GEORGE – Becoming a Canadian citizen is a lengthy affair. To help those towards the end of their application process, sessions are being held every day this week at the Immigrant and Multicultural Service Society to prepare students for the Canadian citizenship test.
Ana Saenz came to Prince George from Mexico City. She is a recent graduate of the UNBC Political Science and International Studies and is in the early stages of becoming a citizen.
“Now that I have finished school, I can apply for a work permit, and then do that for three years and then I can apply to become a permanent resident, and then I can apply to become a citizen. So we are talking like seven, ten-year plan, and all hoping every single step of the process goes well,” says Saenz.
Despite the almost decade-long timeline, Saenz says she’s dedicated to becoming a citizen.
