PRINCE GEORGE – Grade 10 and 11 students will have the chance to learn about career and educational opportunities in health care next week. Forty students are expected to participate and of those, 20 are selected from School District 57 and 20 are sponsored by Rotary Clubs from across the Province.

The annual Rotary Adventures in Healthcare event kicks off on Monday, May 7th and goes until Thursday, May 10th. It was launched by the Rotary Club of Prince George – Yellowhead, AiMHi, CNC, UNBC, Northern Health and School District 57.

“A key focus within Rotary is youth programs and we saw the need to create more awareness with high school students about health care opportunities in northern B.C,” said Rotarian Ron Davis.

To start things off, registration and full day activities will take place at AiMHi.

On the second day, students will cycle through various programs offered by the College of New Caledonia.

“We provide the students with hands-on experiences within the classroom which makes it fun for the students and helps us better understand what piques the students’ interests,” said Glenda Vardy Dell, Dean of the School of Health Sciences.

The students will spend the third day at UNBC to learn about the programs they offer.

“During their visit, they can discover research possibilities and learning options by talking to our students and professors and exploring our classrooms and laboratories,” said UNBC President Dr. Daniel Weeks.

The final day will take place at the University Hospital of Northern BC Learning Centre to find out about some of the different careers available in northern communities.
