Pilot Project Improving Downtown Safety, Cleanliness
PRINCE GEORGE – A City pilot project aimed at helping improve safety, cleanliness and security in the downtown has dealt with 170 cases so far.
The project started back in mid-May, where two Bylaw Compliance Assistants began removing illegal camping, garbage removal and connecting those needing assistance with outreach services in the downtown.
The Assistants’ area also includes the commercial areas along 1st Avenue between Carney Street to the west, the Fraser River to the east and areas near Patricia Boulevard and Queensway.
They work under the Senior Bylaw Enforcement Officer and the Manager of Bylaw Services. Other agencies including the RCMP Downtown Safety Unit coordinate with the Assistants on a regular basis.
