Girls Rock Camp North Looks To Community For Support
PRINCE GEORGE- Preparation for the second annual Girls Rock Camp North is underway and it needs a little help from the community to keep it accessible for campers. It runs for a week in August, it’s open to self-identifying girls and non-binary youth, and camp fees are on a sliding scale from 0 to $300 to accommodate all campers. The camp gives participants one on one music lessons, as well as group workshops to teach collaboration and self-confidence. “They’re learning how to collaborate in a way that’s really vulnerable, learning something new is a really vulnerable,” said co-founder Britt Meierhofer, “because they’re all on the same level, they actually really bond over it, and it’s something a lot of our campers really took with them, some new friends, new skills, and new confidence.”
The camp is completely volunteer run and to keep it accessible for all it needs help to fundraise. An event is being held tomorrow evening at Omineca Arts Centre that features local musicians and a silent auction from 7 until 10. For more information on that event visit it on Facebook. Organizers are also looking for businesses to donate lunches. “One of the main ways we could use sponsorship is to provide lunches for the campers, we do need five lunches provided, Monday through Friday,” added Meierhofer.
