PRINCE GEORGE- It is Pride Week in Prince George, and as many from around the region come to the city to celebrate, Trans Care BC is holding its own event. It’s the first of its kind in our community, and it is specific to trans, two-spirit, and gender diverse people. “It’s a growing community,” said community and network coordinator, Jean Baptiste, “working in the gender clinic we have so many youths and more who are coming out each year, and more people are becoming the first person who’s out in their community.” Communi-T will host a variety of games and activities, but most importantly gives members of the LGBTQ+ community a chance to connect and find support. “Even though we exist within the LGBT spectrum, the needs of trans folk are a little bit different and being able to congregate in a way that creates community is a really unique opportunity.”  It takes place tomorrow at the South Fort George Family Resource Centre from 4 until 7.

The annual Pride Parade and Festival kicks off on Saturday morning at 10. It will look different this year as downtown construction has changed the route of the parade and the location of the festival. This year, the festival takes place in the green space outside the Four Seasons Pool and the parade begins at the Days Inn Hotel across the street. All members of the community are invited to participate. “This is about inclusivity and it’s about celebrating difference, if we can have everyone come together and show our strength around celebrating difference, that’s what it’s really about,” said Prince George Pride member Sue Trabant.
