Historic pole returns at Stellat’en
STELLAT’EN FIRST NATION – A pole connected to one family’s history now stands again. Its return brings back memories of the elders who carved the original and the community members who once gathered around it.
On Tuesday, Stellat’en First Nation held a pole-raising ceremony. The event recognized the removal of the original pole and brought its story back into the public eye.
Patrick Michell of the Luksilyoo, or Little Man, clan, commissioned the original pole. Chief Robert Michell said his grandfather asked for the pole. Elders who have since passed away carved it.
