PRINCE GEORGE – The ribbon was officially cut on the newest seniors housing complex in Prince George. It’s a 27-unit complex on Spruce Street. It is run by the Aboriginal Housing Society of Prince George, which says demand is so high, there will likely be a wait list for this complex by next month.

“But I still encourage people to apply because we need to know where we stand, says Christos Vardacostas, Executive Director for Aboriginal Housing Society of Prince George. “We have intentions for more developments and  we really need to be able to collect information and data on what the needs are.”

“Finding an affordable place to live can be a struggle for Elders and seniors on fixed incomes,” said Selina Robinson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. “They need more housing options so they can continue to stay in their communities when they want to downsize. We are committed to working in partnership, to build more homes like these, to help British Columbians throughout the province.”

Seniors were identified as one demographic that is struggling with housing, as are First Nations and students.
