Raising Awareness for Childhood Sexual Abuse

PRINCE GEORGE – A national movement is giving voice to those who have been affected by childhood sexual abuse. On Saturday a group came together in Prince George to walk for what they and their loved ones have been through.

Over 50 people gathered just outside the Courthouse in downtown Prince George to take part in The Victor Walk, an event raising awareness for victims of childhood sexual abuse. The walk is named after Victor the frog because frogs can look left and right and jump forwards but they never go backwards. Some of the survivors believe it is the perfect symbol to represent the walk.

This walk is put on to both support and encourage all victims of sexual assault. According to a report from Statistics Canada women have been the victims of 87 per cent of incidents but the stigma around sexual assault towards males is changing.

The first Victor Walk started in Toronto in 2013 and was a huge success. Now as the walk branches out to new cities like Prince George the organizers want to see it continue to grow and reach as many people as possible.
