Regional Airports Receive Upgrades
ABBOTSFORD – The Province announced Thursday that 23 regional airports across the province will receive safety and capacity upgrades through the B.C. Air Access Program (BCAAP).
“Airports are a vital transportation link across the province and a lifetime for the many smaller communities they serve,” said Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “These grants make sure airports have the support they need to make important upgrades that would otherwise be too costly.”
For this year, the grants from the BCAAP totalled over $5.3 million. Projects can range from minor upgrades such as runway vegetation management to major upgrades such as terminal expansion. Airports in the northern region include Quesnel with runway lighting replacements, Vanderhoof with an apron expansion and Valemount with lighting rehabilitation. Also, in the region there will be a fuel system reconfiguration at the airport in Anahim Lake, phase two of an obstacle removal in Bella Coola, vegetation management on the runway in Bob Quinn Lake, new windsocks, line painting and signage at Fraser Lake, a runway rehabilitation in Stewart and a runway rehabilitation, GPS and lighting in Telegraph Creek.
