Students And Seniors Under One Roof
PRINCE GEORGE- Intergenerational living isn’t a new concept, but it is something that’s never been done before in Prince George. UNBC and Northern Health have teamed up for a pilot project that will have two students live at the Gateway Lodge for one semester. Students are required to spend ten to fifteen hours a week with the seniors for meals and activities. In return, they will live at the facility for free. Northern Health says the suites being used for the study don’t meet the requirements for licensed care and are not funded. The rooms are used for guests of residents and office space but are typically empty, so the study won’t affect the waitlist for seniors looking for housing. It’s all part of a study to determine how the living arrangement affects both the students and seniors mental health. The students will be selected next week and will move in at the beginning of the fall semester.
