New Hunting Restrictions For Moose In The Chilcotin

VICTORIA — The BC government says it’s limiting moose hunting in the Chilcotin, after a decade-long population decline.
It says there are about 11-thousand-500 moose in the area today, compared with 18-thousand ten years ago and the animals are also facing new challenges as wildfires change the landscape.
The restrictions involve the closure of some limited-entry hunts and the use of motor vehicles for the purposes of hunting in some areas.
They say the restrictions are the result of discussions between the province and the Tsilhqot’in Nation, and First Nations are also working to reduce the harvest of cow moose in the region.
