Highway 97 Reopens Following Double Fatal Collision
WILLIAMS LAKE – Two people are dead, one a 9-year-old child after a double fatal collision 20 kilometres north of Williams Lake.
Highway 97 was closed overnight as police investigated the crash. RCMP at the scene say a southbound pickup truck with a lone driver crossed the centre line and collided with a northbound Toyota with five occupants, and then sideswiped another vehicle in the oncoming lane.
The driver of the Toyota and a 9-year-old sitting in the back died as a result. The other occupants, an adult and two children were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, along with the driver of the pickup truck.
At this early stage in the investigation, impairment does not appear to be a factor in this collision. Police are asking anyone with information about this crash is asked to call Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services in Williams Lake at 250-392-6211.
