PRINCE GEORGE – UNBC is hosting a tour for anyone interested in getting a post-secondary education in Prince George. High school students, recent grads and more will get the chance to gather information, chat with UNBC alumni and tour the Northern campus.

Discovery Day is a one-day event that allows participants to become more familiar with the kind of programs and teaching UNBC offers. There will be an alumni panel that will share their own stories and discuss how UNBC degrees open the door to future careers. Darrin Rigo is a UNBC Alumni and he can still remember one of his favourite moments from Universtiy.

“The third weekend was a home game for the Timberwolves and I remember our residence RA’s made us paint our faces green and gold. We went and just like cheered on the Timberwolves and I had never been a part of something like that like that feeling of being a part of a greater thing. I just remember it felt like a movie and I was like ‘omg I’m in a movie’ like that felt really cool.”

Rigo came to Prince George from Terrace in search of smaller class sizes and says that’s exactly what he found at UNBC.

“If you do think of the size of the bigger University’s we are much, much smaller but it doesn’t sacrifice the quality, you still get that sort of research elite university experience but you’re not jammed in a lecture theatre with 600 or 700 other students. You have class sizes that allow you to get to know your professor and they will get to know you. That was again another thing that really pulled me into the UNBC experience.”

The event has been advertised globally and people have registered from Prince George, Prince Rupert, the Lower Mainland and even the United States.

One of the main points recruiters like to get across to prospective students is the high quality of instruction the school offers. Discovery Day will be held on Saturday, October 20th from 9:30 until 4:30 pm and is a free event for anyone interested.
